Using the questionnaire

As an alternative to using the editing suite, we have a different way of creating a convention, via a questionnaire. This method is faster and easier, and as such is definitely more beginner friendly. However, it is less customisable, and as such further edits may be necessary in the editing suite in order to create a convention which is perfect for your business.

This questionnaire asks a number of questions, and automatically generates a convention from the answers. The questions primarily concern what datapoints the user wishes to track, and what possible values might appear in these datapoints. (For an explanation of datapoints, see ‘Datapoints and UTMs’, elsewhere on this page). Initially, the user is asked to input a name for the convention. Beyond that, all answers supplied by the user are directly converted into the profile itself. The first question asks what sources of traffic are used in the users marketing. This question is mandatory, as ‘source’ is a datapoint which universally appears in UTM Data. Each answer provided as a source of traffic will appear as a button in the ‘source’ field of the profile’s button matrix. Users are then asked to specify different values for the ‘Medium’ UTM, as this datapoint is as universal as ‘Source’. The information entered by the user is interpreted in the same way, in which each answer is converted into a button in a row titled ‘Medium’. Following this question, users are asked to specify which other datapoints they are interested in tracking. A selection of datapoints, along with descriptions of how they can be interpreted, are provided. Users select as many datapoints as they deem relevant from this screen.

For every datapoint which the user selects, they are asked to provide the different possible values for that datapoint. The convention they create will have as many rows as datapoints they select, with additional rows for source and medium. The resultant convention can be further edited in the editing suite. Potential reasons for further editing may include values, or datapoints, which were omitted during the questionnaire, or the need for logical/dynamic behaviours.
